Hoping for Day Five
Cow has been able to spend most of this glorious week at home. YES!Because of extreme cold (which the South is unprepared for) most of the water mains in the city broke, leaving the area without potable water, and without the means to flush toilets, shower, or, of course, water any needy Topiary.
While Topiary feels sad for these unprepared folks waiting in lines for giveaways of water, she is secretly kicking her heels for joy because all offices were closed and Topiary was given so far four days off!
This is not as bad as Katrina because luckily, the electric power has remained on. But with the National Guard called in to dispense water from tanker trucks, a lot still seems the same.
Hoping all readers in the Topiary Universe have made it through this cold weather without incidents!

Lack of water is a major problem, but topiary has been known to be very resourceful. I have been stuck inside this week on my vacation, so bored, that I volunteered to paint the living, dining and kitchen. Somebody stop me!
I have been cycling to work in the snow.
At first it was rather lovely going down the cycle path which descends quietly into the city.
Few were risking it. But it was worth it for the blanket white path and the trees. Slow going, but by no means unpleasant.
But recently the snow froze into ruts and the path became impassable - for my wheels, anyway.
Now I am navigating a minefield of cars on black slushy tarmac.
I hate to laugh when other areas of the country are affects by the cold since up here in the frigid North today is the first day temps are expected to climb far enough past freezing to melt much of anything.
But I was once trapped in a snow storm south of the Mason-Dixon line while driving a 10-foot crocodile to Florida (true story indeed) and I have seen the devastation winter weather can bring on your part of the world. BUT, four days off is fabulous! bring on some snow for you and extend your vacation!

That is quite the photo of the busted water main! It never fails to amaze me how much damage water, in it's many forms, can really do.
It's starting to warm up nicely here in Florida, finally. It's supposed to hit 70+ today. It actually smells like spring outside.

Bicycling is lovely but ruts and ice definitely do not cut it. Please be careful cars do not care about cycles and indeed seem to go out of their way to get them.
Kate: yes this weather would be nothing for other parts of the country but here it has caused major problems. In fact these would have been nice warm days in Minnesota, Maine or Alaska!
