Fantastic Read

Just finished Captain Sullenberger's book, "Highest Duty". Readers may remember the Captain from his Hudson River Landing after his plane was hit by geese.

This was a very interesting book, filled with facts such as: US Airways doesn't give crew meals (Captain mentions his peanut butter and jelly sandwich packed for long flights), and that the emergency handbooks no longer have tabs, as a cost-saving measure, meaning that in an emergency, such as having both engines go out, the co-pilot has to flip through the book looking for the relevant information.

Captain S is very generous in the book, giving credit to his co-pilot Captain Skiles, the air traffic controller, etc. As described in the book, the co-pilot had almost as much to do with the success as he did, yet was given none of the credit. Such is fame.

This was a fast-paced read and was an interesting step into the life of someone who had been flying since high school, a fact all the passengers, for sure, probably were glad of.

Moo!

thanks, topiary cow. i love your book reviews. this looks interesting, indeed. the poor captain didn't get anything to eat? what is going on with the airlines?!! after all my traveling these past two years i have soooo many stories.look forward to reading Capt. Sully's.

i have two recommendations for you for xmas. in years past, i always went to the movies, took myself out for a tasty drink and ate elegantly and healthfully, so that when others were whining about their over-indulgences the next, i smiled contentedly.

anyway, two great movies i saw in those years where Standing in the
Shadows of Motown AND Only the Strong Survive. these two movies had me singing and crying and smiling and singing exuberantly over and over. they're now on DVD. i don't know if you like the Motown sound, but these two movies give the histories of two great record copies, and they're filled with stories and performances.

anyway, this is getting long, but i don't believe in standard holidays. i like to make my own.
