You! Yes, You! You know who you are...

Cow understands that the word verification before you post a comment is there to impede mass postings.

She admits though, not seeing why, if blog owners are in addition to requiring word verification moderating comments, and deleting any spam at that point before it is published, why also require posters type the word verification?

It's just that you're typing, and scrolling down with the mouse to submit, then you've got to go back to typing to put in the image letters, then go back to the mouse..

Cow wishing that those who moderate could do away with also requiring word verification. Seems like one or the other would be sufficient protection against spam.

amen! I hate the word verification. I only see it necessary for blogs that get tons of traffic that generate a ton of spam. Thing is, those don't have it, lol. I don't get it. I think I've deleted about 4 spam entries from my blog total. I'd rather do that than have an annoying word verification for legitimate commentators.

YES! it drives me insane. either moderate comments, or have verification or just allow comments (like i do) but not moderation AND verification. thanks, i have been keeping that bile in longer than is healthy.

There are times when the bloggity scanning robots seem to find a weakness and they assault a particular blog. That's a time when it's handy to be able to turn on word verification. Otherwise you have 50 spams to delete and that's just a pain.

I used to turn it on for awhile and then, when the coast was clear, I'd turn it off.

That said, I agree it's a pain. Especially when I forget to fill it in and my comment is lost....

I like it. It is like a puzzle when I try to see if I can do it on one try, with game show music in the background, and a big gong waiting to go off. try spelling bliftkodle without laughing.

Well said, Ms Cow, I have made the same point many times. The Gorilla Bananas' policy is no moderation, no word verification. I have only ever deleted a handful of comments I didn't like.

Watercolor: ah, so glad Cow is not the only one...thanks for your experiences..

Nath: Welcome to the Land of Topiary! You are welcome to spill, or vent, or do whatever it is one does do with bile, here, anytime!

Daisy: who but our revered Daisy would know about 'bloggity scanning robots'? Well, 50 spams does sound horrendous to delete, perhaps Cow has been too hasty...

RJ: as always you have contributed a varied perspective...bliftkodel, indeed!

Gorilla: the might of Gorilla is, alone, probably enough to scare any prospective spammers not only out of GB's blog, but out of the Congo!

Linda: Cow may have been too hasty in her comments, and if in fact Ms. Linda is subject to an unrelenting torrent of spam, is ready to do sincere penance.

Lulu: Only someone with your unique perspective on life cycles and birth, and death, of all things insect, could fail to be annoyed by word verif, in Cow's humble opinion. By the way, love your expletive: what more fitting for a bug woman than 'crikey'!

Unless it's "jiminy cricket" maybe.

Moo!
