Watching

Ever watched a movie that gave you nightmares, and you couldn't figure out if it were really bad, or really good? So you looked up reviews?

"Darkly comic thriller"
...it was?...

"Satire of consumerism and control"
....oooh, missed that entirely...

"Repulsive and lame-brained mess"
....Ah. but the acting was really good...

"Ugly, boring, and stupid"
...hmmm. Boring, stupid, maybe, but the actors weren't ugly (see the weightlifting scene)

Guess you can say the critics were split on this one.

Moo!

I wonder if anyone actually enjoys their nightmares, Ms Cow. If you can enjoy a horror movie, why not a nightmare?

So, does a movie giving you nightmares mean it was a good or a bad movie?

I had a very disturbing nightmare last night. I woke up quite upset.

(p.s. I sent you an email invite to view my blog but I didn't know if you still had your gmail account)

I think most "good" horror movies are, on some level at least, bad movies. They take risks that other movies do not; to go over the top. Then of course they have to have an element of humor too. So that we can have a breather from the tension. Then we feel safe for a moment and "Wamo" they scare us again. Excitement and fear are very close emotions to the brain. If the fear fails and there is no excitement then the scene falls flat and appears silly.
If you want to see a great movie on paranoia, see Bug.
It's a real gross out, but also a great take on the level at which paranoia can get outta hand. Way outta hand!

I am afraid I cannot watch spooky or disturbing movies as they always end up in my nightmares.

The scariest one I sat through was The Shining. Jack Nicholson reminded me of my father - not that my father ever axed anything, just the unpredictablity of him.

The nice thing about nightmares is that you're relieved to wake up from them.

There's nothing so good for crushing the day as waking up to the disappointment that a happy ending was a dream.

A truly awful movie that actually haunts and creeps me the heck out is The Skeleton Key with Kate Hudson. Its totally far-fected and stupid, but dang, it creeps me out to this day, several years after seeing it. Go figure!
You would think I would be scared enough at the dive our 401K has taken. LOL!!!

Would someone like to review my nightmares to see if they're any good?

GB: perhaps it's the lack of popcorn during sleep that makes them so unenjoyable.

That, or the feeling of having to fight your way out of it up to consciousness...bleah.

Dog: not sure...still trying to figure out if this movie were really bad or really good...

Supermom: will be sending you an email to be able to get into the blog...so honored to be invited!

Ms. Wenham: What you say is very true. This movie definitely took risks! And possibly failed on the humor front, now that you mention it!

Linda: Just the thought of Jack Nicholson gives poor Cow nightmares, even without seeing him "acting"...usually Cow stays away from them too, but rented this one because of a cute guy actor in it...(thus the shallowness of Topiary! :))

Kevin: Ah, you've hit the nail on the head! Nothing worse than the disappointment of facing reality after a great "wish-fulfillment" dream...and you're right, after a movie nightmare such as this, reality didn't look so bad!

Heather: (Topiary making note to stay away from Skeleton Key) It it stayed with you for years must have truly been horrific!

Ms. Scarlet: Cow has a feeling that several male bloggers would be happy to help you with your nightmare review...

Moo!
