Day the Earth Stood Still

Nothing like moo-vies for Christmas afternoon. And despite reviews, The Day The Earth Stood Still was good. Keanu was good, too bad about the obligatory "cute kid" but John Hamm was excellent and made up for it. And Cow doesn't care what anybody says, the special effects were cool!

As for Adam Sandler's "Bedtime Stories" Cow must sadly ask, what is the world coming to when he is the star of the moovie and Guy Pearce is only a supporting role. What bizarro world is this?

Cow stayed for the entire moovie, which as a regular contributor and reader, Dog will recognize is a rarity for Cow.

Cow thought it was good. Although if you still haven't seen Bolt Dog's kiddies would probably like that better!

Moo!

Guy Pearce is a fine actor. Intense without being obvious about it. I have always loved him. He has not had his integrity compromised by the Hollywood machine. I will be seeing both those movies. This is movie time of year for me.

Sorry, it's Michael Rennie or nothing for me.

Linda: Agreed. He was great in Memento and also LA Confidential. He's also made a few Australian movies which were slow, introspective, and probably indie, can't remember their names.

Darn. All this talking about him is actually tempting Topiary to go back to the theatre to see the remainder of Bedtime Stories, just to check out Guy's part.

Moo!

Kevin:

Cow admits to serious culture-lack by confessing she's never seen the original with Rennie. However she is sure he was good, just as she is sure the special effects are much better now.

But as they say, it's the writing which makes the moovie. And how so many new moovies fail to charm, in lacking coherent dialog, and plot.

Luckily Day could stand on the 1950's version and so now has plot, dialog, AND special effects!

Moo!
