Australia

Saw Australia, and admits she still prefers the director's "Strictly Ballroom."

Though she certainly appreciates his thoughtfulness in showing us Hugh Jackman dousing himself with water.

Topiary admires Nicole Kidman, she just doesn't feel any connection to any of her characters. Can admire her beauty, without really caring what happens to her. Alas.

Also saw the first hour or so of The Punisher. Went because of being a fan of Julie Benz, who could not make up for this muck of a movie.

Moo!

Bit of hubris Baz shows there, calling the movie 'Australia'.

Now, for the next decade or so, I'm very much afraid our nation will be identified principally with a vainglorious, cheesy box-office... flop.

I did like his Romeo and Juliet, though.

I am loathe to see the movie. Mainly because Nicole Kidman puts me off the whole thing. Plus it all looks a bit OTT.

There are so many great Australian movies like "A Town Like Alice" and "Picnic At Hanging Rock" or "My Brilliant Career" that are truly good Australian movies.

Like Tim mentioned, Romeo and Juliet was a good one of Baz's.

Apparently Baz wrote the script for Australia.

The fact that Romeo and Juliet seemed to me to be a vastly superior film to Australia would therefore seem to suggest that Baz stays well away from the scripts in future, and sticks to what he does best: making his actors stand about in pretty costumes in pretty scenery.

TimT: You're right, hubris. Funny!

Linda: Yes, not crazy about Nicole either.

Will have to get some of those you mention.

Doghouse: Topiary is a big fan of Julie from her days on Buffy and Angel. Glad she is still getting work!

Kevin: Well, one kangaroo was shot in the movie, snif!

TimT: It's the way of the world, people who should stick to one thing always want something else. Barbra Streisand, a good singer but determined to be an actor, comes to mind.

We'll hope for the best for Baz.

Moo!
