Tagged by Watercolor for a book meme, Cow admits to procrastinating most of the week.

Why?

Because the books she had around just weren't interesting.

So (bending the rules just a bit) here are bits from a better one:

"Sir Anthony Ferndale sat before the dressing table in his room at the White Hart. A gorgeous silk dressing gown lay over the back of his chair, and, behind him, Jim was attending to his wig, at the same time hovering anxiously over the coat and waistcoat that were waiting to be donned.

Ferndale yawned and leaned back in his chair, a slim graceful figure in cambric shirt and apricot satin breeches. He studied his cravat for some moments in the mirror, and lifted a hand to it. With extreme deliberation the hand moved a diamond and emerald pin the fraction of an inch to one side. "

I can see Ms Cow has a liking for the English toff! Or perhaps just reading about his affected behaviour!

I love Georgette Heyer, too. She's so funny, and her heroes are gorgeous.I adore that combination of lacy elaborate clothes, wit, and real tough manliness... mmm. Love scones xx

Watercolor:Cow is a romantic at heart...yes indeedy!

And yes, GB, Cow does like the English toff. Though she keeps trying to catch the tune of the Eton Boating Song (mentioned on GB's blog) and can't seem to get the hang of it.

Scones, Cow luuuuves Heyer. They are tattered with re-reading, and so glad to find someone who also appreciates her humor!

Some of the books have conversations which are just hilarious! And the way they are written just adds to the laughs. They are priceless and Cow wishes a few had been made into high-quality moovies. Ah. One can only dream.

Moo!

Today it could read:

Linda sat before the dressing table in her tiny bedroom at home. A mismatched pair of pyjama's thrown on the floor. Behind her, the son was asking where his socks were and her big dog had wriggled under the bed.

Linda yawned, leaned back on her chair and really wished that the graceful figure of her hairdresser was there to blow dry her hair and make her look gorgeous. Instead, she studied her reflection in the multi magnifying glass and realised, with resignation, that another age spot had found it's way on her cheek.

Sigh......no wonder we read books. Reality is so much more brutal.

My dear sir (or is it madam? One can never tell with bovines). A fellow fan of Georgette Heyer! My word, that is a discovery. QUite made my day (and it needed making, I can assure you!).

Kevin: Why, thank you! (happily humming Eton Boating song). Had downloaded the sheet music and played it but just couldn't catch the tune. Now, got it. Thanks!

Linda: You are priceless! Hilarious! Cow predicts a stellar writing career ahead of you!

Can Bass: Ahem. Cow is female. American. Enjoying the neatly trimmed Topiary of those around her in a giant Topiary park in America.

Yes...Heyer is a master. And to think this was all written on a typewriter without the ability to instantly edit and revise any awkward sentences. Her sheer output is amazing, though of course some books are better than others. The best are absolute gems.

Cow exits, head buried deep in "Faro's Daughter" by Georgette Heyer. Written in the 1930's(?) but timeless humor, intricate plotting, perfect romance.

Moo!
