Wrong

Cow carefully watched the weather on Saturday. The forecast was for a very hot 100-degree day with 20% chance of rain.

Saturday night, torrential storms blew through and continued into Sunday, complete with flood warnings and the high reached 80, though there was a nice breeze in the afternoon and it was 78.

Sunday evening, weathermen recapped the story. Was there one word about how they had missed not only the torrential storm, but the temperature (by 20 degrees!)...no.

It's not that Cow minds them being wrong. It's just that she does wonder how they could be so very, very wrong, considering they have all that radar and doppler and everything.

Moo!

They say it's because of chaos theory. A butterfly fluttered its wings somewhere and threw the forecast off by 20 degrees and a storm.

GB: Cow wonders if chaos theory accounts for Gorilla's simultaneous existence both in the Congo and in the blogosphere, and thanks GB for his, as always, incisive comments.

Watercolor: If you were so wrong in YOUR work, we would all be in big trouble whenever we went inside a building. Or even near one!

Supermom: Yes indeedy. And cozy it is now, furnished with tasteful bits of Topiary...

Doghouse: Perhaps all the dogs not only dropped their Dopplers but also were the ones making the forecasts?

Now that would account for it.

Statistically they were right about the rain: "20% chance of rain" means anything between a year-long drought and Noah's flood.

We've had everything bar snow in the past few days, but the week is yet young.

We certainly got Noah's flood, 45,000 people lost power, 2 inches of rain in 1 hour, 1500 lightning strikes in five minutes.

Well, that's what they say anyway. They could be wrong (again).

Cow wishing Mr. Musgrove well with his winter-in-the-summer.

Some weather dudes are just underfunded. Without gobs of money all they can afford is "dopeler" radar, which isn't quite as accurate.

Anyway, all that water is good for topiary - I'll bet your leaves are a lush and green today.

"Dopeler" radar? Why of course that explains it.

(Cow now suitably knowledgeable) Ha.
