Rich

Topiary Bunny and Cow took a little trip around the nether regions of her neighborhood.

These areas, previously forested, are now being turned into subdivisions. Some are tiny houses crammed together with tiny roads. Some, though, are big mansions on acreage for the rich.

Cow thinks that with few exceptions people that are rich either inherited it or are crooks. For instance, Donald Trump started his empire with money from his father. Granted, he enlarged it, but without the seed money he would probably be an "employee" too. Even those who started their own businesses often had help from parents for years before they became successful.

Bunny wanted to go door-to-door of the mansions, asking people how they got rich enough to afford these places. Empirical research is the only way to prove the truth of Cow's theory. But Cow thinks few would admit having stolen, ripped off and cheated their way to success, so all you would get would be tired feet and sore fingers from pushing so many doorbells.

Moo!

I think you should just say "Trick or Treat."

It would be interesting to see what you get in June.

For research purposes, you know.

And I was thinking you might have been offered delicious cookies and lemonade out by the pool.

Do Topiary swim in pools?

Now TC, you know this is my soapbox topic! And I must respectfully disagree. I believe there is a difference in being rich and looking rich. From my years in banking I learned that many (certainly not all!) of these people in huge houses are not actually rich, they just have excellent credit despite a very low net worth. Many of the people with high net worth (i.e. rich) are living in smaller houses in modest neighborhoods where they can save more than they spend or in rural areas where they own land.

You see, it is very difficult to build weath while spending loads of money. It is much easier to be wealthy when you don't actually look wealthy. I believe this is what is causing much of the "housing crisis" across the country, too many people want to look richer than they are. At the same time, I have also seen quite a few exceptions. I suppose wealthy comes in all shapes and sizes.

Ok, I'm done now. Sorry. And I happen to think trick or treating is an excellent idea, by the way. We should all go.

Doggie: Yes sir (Cow quickly pulling on scary mask and putting Bunny in big black witch costume)

Daisy: One can hope. And yes, Topiary do swim in pools.

Topiary is naturally buoyant.

Susan: Cow thinks you are right.

As a matter of fact, Cow wonders why nobody builds just normal, middle-class housing anymore. It all has to have pillars and swooping driveways and ostentation.

However, much as Cow tries to console herself that these mansion-dwellers only LOOK rich, there sure seem to be a lot of people living in those places.

Moo!

Is there an age limit for trick-or-treating? Suppose an old codger turned up at your door in a wizard's costume?

GB: you mean they aren't all wizards then?

Damn me, I've got a pantry full of magic apples, they must be worth something on a rainy day.

Cow very frightened of Kevin's pantry.

And GB can trick-or-treat any time, no costume needed. Why? Because gorillas are always in season.

haha.
