Napoleon

Cow very happily stumbled across the blog My Napoleon Obsession.

Luckily Cow is long over her own Napoleon obsession. She hardly remembers her partiality for the Egyptian campaign, and the meticulous diaries of Bourrienne (before he was kicked to the curb for profiteering). It's been at least a ...year... since she traveled to a Napoleonic exhibit.

In fact, it's been so long since Cow toured parts of the Continent with a now-defunct Napoleonic historical study group, she hardly remembers spending three days on the battlegrounds of Waterloo. Cow's partiality for the Battle of Trafalgar which led to it's re-enactment in a neighbor's pool is now just a dim memory.

Sinking the French fleet at Aboukir would have been fun too, but would have required explosives and a fire permit there at the end.

Ah. No. Cow has long outgrown her Napoleon obsession. Long outgrown. (Cow quickly getting Napoleonic texts down from the bookcase).

Just going to look up a few things.

Moo!

Whatever you do, don't read "Secret History of the Pink Carnation."

Mr Bonaparte was an enemy of the gorilla nation, which is why my ancestors jumped for joy when news of Trafalgar got to the Congo. Obvioucly they were upset about Nelson's death even as they whooped. Has Ms Cow visited HMS Victory in Portsmouth?

Sandi: Too late. Because of it's charming cover, Cow did pick that book up. Terrible, terrible.

Books like that make Cow wonder how they got printed. And to add insult to injury, that author now has a second book out. Ergh.

Gorilla: Cow is saddened by hearing of the Emperor's enemity to the Gorilla Nation.

It's heartening to think, though, that amongst conquering Europe, imprisoning the Pope, selling Louisiana, writing the Code, quelling riots, etc., the Emperor did have time to turn his eye to the Congo.

Cow has not yet visited Portsmouth but through the magic of the Internet has now visited the HMS Victory website. Very cool!

In return, Cow offers up a nearby ship she has visited, the

USS Cairo.

One of my school mates struggled with this bit of European history as he couldn't understand why Napoleon was sent into exile in St. Helens. The rest of us thought it served the beggar right for upsetting Beethoven.

A scary exile indeed.

Thanks Kevin!

Tell me about it! That book was one step below your garden-variety romance paperback. Rather, two or three steps. And stupid me, bought the sequel at the same time. What a waste of paper, and money.

Cows are a bit ungainly in pools, aren't they? Even Topiary Cows?

Sandi: Cow regrets that you purchased not one, but two turkeys (Cow had luckily borrowed from the library)

BigBouquet:
Yes, Cows do tend to flounder a bit in heavy water.

Anticipating this, Cow adopted Bush's battle strategy (directing from the sidelines) rather than Napoleon's (engaging in battle along with his men)
