Advice

Cow had a little consultation with an attorney and backed out of the sale, which also probably means kissing off the job offer and sucking it up and staying put in Mississippi.

"Where did I go wrong?" wailed Cow after telling her story.

"Don't use those realtors again," growled the attorney, surrounded by hefty tomes of non-Topiary learning. "They influenced you to accept the offer, which they shouldn't have."

"You didn't do so badly," offered Attorney as Cow padded out on quiet Topiary hooves. "Could have been worse," consoled the learned man.

Cow is living and learning, apparently. As are we all.

Why necessarily kissing off the job offer?

You're mostly back to square one, albeit with bruised shins. Commiserations.

Ah. Because the buyer can sue me at this point, according to my legal advice.

If you want gory details email me (they're not for posting)

Do you want the job? You were happy with the original deal, so why not just do it? So it is less than it might could be? So what. Sell it. Move. Take a leap of faith and go for it.

If you were happy with the deal before someone else stuck their nose into it, think about that.

There are things more important than money. Were you excited about this new opportunity? Would the original sale give you enough money to do what you needed to do?

When I moved here, I took a $7000 a year pay cut because it was worth it to get out of a situation that wasn't good for me. Money should not be the deciding factor. Don't give all this up because someone has convinced you you should get more for your house.

Is that the most important aspect of this whole picture to you?

If so, great.

If not, then think about what is.

Could you wait it out? Call your potential employer and see if they'll give you a little more time? You don't have to go into the gory details with them; just say something vague about selling your house?

Ouch. I agree with all your other blog-friends. Don't give up on the job, and assess your options with a long-run perspective. And if you think your friends have screwed you, just remember Immaculée.

Humble Cow would like to thank all her blog-friends for their thoughtful comments.

Watercolor:You are absolutely right, getting to the root of what is most important is key. Thanks.

Sandi:Your youth belies your wisdom. Sandi, Topiary is crowning you Honorary Topiary Princess!

Doug:Agreed. And thanks. Cow will definitely keep in mind all options and long goals and perspectives.

Cow is still exploring options with others on this front and will blog more when there is either more news, or she reaches a decision.

Thanks again all, for your input.

Moo!
