Homeless

70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day in the USA.There will never be enough homes for all these animals. Almost 8,000,000 dogs and cats are euthanized each year because there are no homes for them.

Pet overpopulation is a tragedy of our time. Topiary just wants every pet to have a good home.

Moo!

Well....I obviously missed the spay day, but we do keep all of them or find good homes for them. We try anyway-one kitten we gave away this spring died the same day because a neighbors dog saw it, flew to their yard and killed it within seconds. So yeah, I would rather keep them. They all get their shots, etc too. Most of mine are indoor/outdoor. I'm sorry, but I have issues with trying to keep an animal that is a natural hunter and a carnivore indoors all the time.

I wish I could adopt every stray pet there is. :-(

BTW, checked the nest when I got home and it is empty. Seems kind of early for the little ones to be off on their own. But I'm hoping that is the case.

I hate I missed the little send off. :(

I'm liking the new trend in some areas toward mandatory sterilization of dogs and cats unless the owner buys an exception or a breeding permit: http://doglaw.hugpug.com/doglaw_014.html

Topiary would like to join Supermom in adopting ALL who need homes.

Obviously with millions, would need to build a Topiary Addition...

Ace, Topiary likes this trend.

Your Royal Cluckiness, Topiary didn't mean indoor/outdoor cats, Topiary is sure yours are good, fine cats and get excellent care (and nursing!)

Topiary referred to the sad practice of people "dumping" sick or elderly cats in neighborhoods far from their homes.

Or, as she listened horrified to one "gentleman" describe his taking his wife and daughter's cat and dumping it in a parking lot where "someone would take it" and then telling them that it "must have ran away."

Topiary recently found a tame cat, somebody's pet, dumped in her neighborhood, that was in such bad shape it couldn't even walk, from a long-standing illness. This pet which Topiary took to the vet, was immediately euthanised by the professionals who THANKED HER for bringing it in because it was in such a bad way.

Topiary just felt so bad that this pet was dumped to be hit by a car or suffer a lingering death. This pet was unknown to Topiary but its little purring gratitude when she picked it off the street was generously given and broke Topiary's heart.
